9th September 2015
Prosurv Consult have been appointed by VSM (NCGM) Ltd as Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyor on the redevelopment of the New Covent Garden Market site in Nine Elms, London.
The landmark ten-year project, led by 50/50 joint venture partners VINCI St. Modwen, together with Covent Garden Market Authority, will see the existing market facilities, which were built in 1974 and currently cover three separate sites, consolidated from 57 acres to a single 37 acre site with the remaining 20 acres being transformed into a mixed-use riverside development encompassing 3,000 new homes plus offices, retail and leisure facilities for the community.
The new market site will house the UK’s largest fruit, vegetable and flower market with 200 tenant businesses covering over 500,000 sq. ft. of modern market facilities including a new Food Quarter and ‘Garden Heart’ featuring ‘The Academy’ - a brand new state-of-the-art food and flower education centre, plus retail spaces on the ground floor including a bank and Post Office.
The multi-phased project will provide around 2,000 new jobs in the area with the main construction enabling works to the new market scheduled to commence in early 2016 followed by the development work on the first phase of the surplus land due in 2017.
