New Derbyshire Sports Pavilion Unveiled at Clay Cross
25th June 2014
A brand new sports pavilion has been unveiled at St. Modwen’s mixed-use development at Clay Cross in Derbyshire, providing an exciting new facility for the local community.
The UK’s leading regeneration specialist handed over the new pavilion together with sports pitches, a bowls green and new children’s play area, to members of the local Parish and District Councils following an eight month build project.
The 1,900 sq ft pavilion represents the first phase of work as part of the regeneration of a 204 acre site south of Chesterfield that will incorporate up to 980 new homes, as well as 270,000 sq ft of employment space and a local centre complete with family pub and a proposed discount supermarket
Set for use by the former Clay Cross Company works cricket, table tennis and bowls teams, as well as other local grassroots sports clubs, the pavilion incorporates modern facilities including changing rooms, social areas and an equipment store.
David Dodge, senior residential development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “We’re really pleased to have handed over the pavilion at Clay Cross. The creation of a modern facility for use by local residents and sports teams will really support the existing sense of community in the area and help create a location for more residents to come together and enjoy sport and leisure activities.
“The site represents a significant opportunity for St. Modwen to create a sustainable, mixed-use environment that provides residential accommodation, employment opportunities and community facilities. We look forward to unveiling our revised masterplan for the site in the near future and to starting construction of the next phase of the development very soon.”
Councillor Graham Baxter MBE, leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, added: “We’re extremely pleased to see the first phase of works complete at Clay Cross in the form of a new sports pavilion for use by a wide range of sporting teams. This facility will support the sense of community and inclusion that already exists in the area and we look forward to seeing the rest of the development take shape creating much needed new homes and opportunities for employment.
Councillor Mick Holmes, vice chair of Clay Cross Parish Council, added: “We’re delighted with the new facilities, which will provide local sports teams with a designated area in which to come together and participate in sports and social activities.
“The facility will be a well utilised venue for people living in the area, as well as for new residents coming to the planned residential development at Clay Cross. We look forward to continuing to work closely with St. Modwen to support them in the successful delivery of this exciting new scheme.”
